Personal Immigration
Work visas
UK work routes differ in one important way: whether an employer sponsors you, and how long the route is intended to last.
Choosing the right one at the outset affects your family, your flexibility and whether the route leads anywhere in the longer term.

Questions worth answering early
- can you apply from inside the UK, or must you apply from abroad?
- what happens to your partner and children?
- does the route lead towards settlement, or not?
- what happens if you change employer?
- is there anything in your immigration history that needs addressing?
Temporary routes are temporary
Some routes are designed for assignments and are not settlement routes. If you intend to stay long term, that should shape the route you choose now.
Do not resign first
Changes of employer usually require a new sponsorship and a new application. Check the position before giving notice.
